How to line up straight
Most people think poor alignment causes you to hit it off line. While this is true its actually more often the other way around.Hitting it offline causes you to realign yourself to compensate.
For example: a poor swing causes you to hit it left (for example) and then you start aiming to the right to compensate.
Now you have fixed a fault with another fault and…..uh oh….. we are starting to get complicated
Poor alignment is often a result of poor shots and is just a compensation.
Fix the swing fault and the alignment will become easy again.
Having said that it is not all that easy to line yourself up well.
This is a great little drill to help you line up and also how the pros line themselves up….
1. Stand behind your shot and pick a spot on the fairway about 1 club length in front of your ball in line with your target.
2. Now come around and set up to the ball and line the bottom of your club face, feet, hips and shoulders up with your selected spot.
This works well because it is easier to line your self up to something just in front of you than far away in the distance.
